Luminous Habitats

All the lives behind lit windows

Without parodying Baudelaire in his poem “Windows” from Paris Spleen, windows lit at night are fascinating for all the lives they shelter.

Having worked on the durability of Habitats with my oil painting on crumpled canvas, I now explore these same Habitats through the eye of the one who looks at the luminous openings of lit apartments.

Who has never been curious enough to glance, in the evening, at the lit window of the neighbour across the street? I dared. I imagined the lives and drew the portraits of the occupants of these Habitats, of their apartments, of these buildings lit from within with the reflection of the city's other lights.

My techniqueSmall scenes painted in oil, scanned, assembled and worked digitally. Printed on translucent plexiglass. Backlit by standard LED panels. I sign with an old pastel from my Paris Rooftops series, which I place in the apartment of an art lover.
