Habitats
The soul of cities, in relief
My artistic approach springs from my fascination with Habitats — those spaces where collective memory, urban dynamism and social challenges meet. Whether the modernist architecture of the post-war boom years, the contemporary boldness of suburban tower blocks, sometimes tagged, often stigmatised, or the skylines of zinc, tiles and chimneys on the roofs of old buildings, each architecture carries within it a memory, an energy, a humanity. My work consists in revealing the beauty and complexity of these urban landscapes, ideally set at their heart or proudly standing at their edges.
Through oil painting I capture these landscapes, but I do not merely represent them: I transform them. By crumpling the canvas, by distorting the surface, I give my works a third dimension, creating a dialogue between painting and sculpture. This gesture, both instinctive and controlled, reveals the material as a metaphor for the city itself: at once solid and shifting, structured and unpredictable.
Each painting becomes an ode to the resilience of cities, but also an open question about their future. How will we live tomorrow? How can we reconcile sustainability, fairness and urban poetry? My art seeks to be a bridge — between cultures, between eras, between the centre and the periphery, between the intimate and the universal. An invitation to see beyond forms, to discover the vibrant soul of the places we pass through, and of those we sometimes choose to ignore.
